Peter Polkiewicz

Peter Polkiewicz was born and raised in Pueblo, Colorado. Four years ago he bought a home in Colorado Springs, Colorado which he shares with his 82 year old mom, Maria, and their dog Sugar. He is a determined bachelor and intends to remain as such.

He has been an admirer of the Faberge Eggs since he first saw photos of them in grade school. Always fascinated with the "egg", he had a small collection of plain plastic and stone eggs. In 1989, one of his employers, DJ, began ostrich ranching but had no incubator so the eggs ended up in the trash. Tragic! He started getting the eggs from DJ and followed his nose. He had always been into arts and crafts such as string art, decoupage, painting, shadow boxes, bead art, and other such crafts. So he created jewelry boxes, night lamps, and dioramas.

Not knowing about the hazards of egg dust, he worked in the dust for nearly 5 years. Around 1994 his sister-in-law (Schelle) found information about the IEAG and the Dallas show. Peter, Maria, and Schelle drove down to the show. WOW! Things haven't been the same since. Not only did he find supplies, information, and education, but he also found friends involved in the same fascination of egg art.

Peter holds a Masters certification in Hand Painting and in Decoupage. He also holds Intermediate certificates in Beaded, Diorama, Scratch, and Filigree and plans to obtain Masters in those categories soon. Bea Dillard was such an inspiration to him in that area, as she was to many eggers. He is an instructor and has won many awards. In 2005 he had the honor of creating the Colorado Egg for the White House.

His biggest inspiration is his Mom. "She has always been there for me, no matter what." She supports his love of egg art and, although not an egger herself, attends the shows with Peter and loves the beauty everyone creates. When he works he puts on some smooth jazz music and just dives in, sometimes working until way past bedtime.

"I plan on doing eggs until I can do them no more."
