Carole serves as the
Historian, but she also is a Past President of the IEAG, 1996-1998 and she
is a recipient of the Kit Stansbury Award for outstanding service to IEAG.
She is a retired Adult Nurse Practitioner and is married to Dick; they
will celebrate their 40th anniversary on Valentines Day 2010. They have no
children, but sharing their lives now is a Small Dog Rescue Pekingese
named Trumper.
Carole tells us:
"I
began "doing eggs" after my next door neighbor gave me one when I was very
ill back in the 80's. As my health improved I decided that if I knew how
to draw and paint, I could probably do that, and with much effort being on
bed rest, I began watching an artist teach children how to draw and paint
on Nickelodeon. Eventually I found a lady in North GA who had retired
there from CA, where she had learned egg art. I drove 70 miles each way,
every week for about 2 years to take egg art lessons and purchase supplies
from "Sam" Janie Boyd.
She encouraged me to join the
Egg Art Guild, and we traveled to Sally LeVan's Allentown Show, and my
husband took me to Jim and Jane Crawley's, Eggsibit, in Dallas, TX, and I
met the Corrigans doing a seminar in AL, I think."
"By the time the EAG became
the NEAG, I decided I could join these artists; I joined the year that
Jeanne Howse was President (the 5th) of the NEAG! My health deteriorated
considerable over the years as systemic lupus took its toll, but I kept
doing eggs to save my sanity. Eventually I got better, started selling my
egg art at upscale arts and craft shows, and went on to develop a
wholesale business selling egg art to 15 stores in the Southeast (SC, FL,
GA, LA) It was a very busy time filling orders all of the time. I also
eventually got rid of my oxygen tank, and I was able to travel to more
shows and become more involved in what was now the IEAG. I served as the
9th President and enjoyed every minute of it. I have had the opportunity
to meet lots of egg artists around the country and, after having to take a
break for the past few years, I hope to begin to be able to travel to
shows again, and maybe even teach again. I have founded egg art guilds in
GA, FL, and SC. I am President again of the EGG (Eggart Guild of GA), but
I no longer sell my eggs wholesale. If you have questions about the
history of the guild, I can usually find the information for you....or I
may just know the answer without research."
